After much anticipation, NYC favorite Dr. Marnie Nussbaum has unveiled her new skincare line, LINES. Specifically crafted for women aged 35 and above, LINES offers advanced solutions for optimizing your skincare routine or exploring new treatments. Now available at Sage + Sound, Dr. Marnie's expertise and innovative products are within reach. In this interview, Dr. Marnie shares her morning routine, skincare secrets, and personal habits that keep her energized and positive throughout the day.
Tell me about your morning products.
I use my own Dr. Marnie's GlyGel Cleanser right away. After cleaning, I use my C-Complex, a vitamin C serum for acne-prone skin. I follow that with a peptide serum complex for fine lines and wrinkles, and then an oil-free moisturizer—my own formulation. I also use Skin Better Science Interfuse Eye Cream, splitting one pump into two applications. Finally, I apply Revisions Nectifirm Advanced on my neck.
My new line, LINES, is for women aged 35 and above. It was created to optimize and extend treatment or for those who are treatment-curious. For example, if you're interested in lip fillers but hesitant, we have a lip serum that plumps and volumizes. Our facial serum contains the highest potency of peptides and vitamin C, using new delivery systems to ensure they work together effectively. It comes in both tinted and clear versions.
When it comes to makeup, I'm obsessed with Chantecaille’s Just Skin tinted moisturizer. It is my go-to. I also can't live without Nars’ Radiant Creamy Concealer for my dark under-eye circles. I love Saie’s mascara and Baccarat Perfume.
Do you have any go-tos for starting your day on a positive note?
I wake up and usually find my daughter in bed with me, which always puts me in a good mood. My husband makes me coffee, and it’s waiting for me downstairs. I have a double espresso with French Vanilla Coffeemate. For breakfast, every single day, I have a chocolate cake pop from Starbucks and a grande French vanilla latte. My assistant has it ready on my desk, and it makes me excited to start the day.
Growing up, my mother taught me that everything should be in moderation, and I've passed this philosophy on to my children. I love vegetables, but I do have a sweet tooth. Waking up to a chocolate cake pop makes me happy and excited for the day.
What do you do in terms of movement?
I don't have much time to exercise, so I always walk to work, which is about 18 blocks. During my walk, I call my mom and closest friends to check in and see how everyone is. Since I'm back-to-back with patients all day, my walks are my only time to connect with the people I love.
Do you ever get a midday slump? How do you handle that?
I’ve found that the best solution is to keep snacks in my office. I can't have a big lunch because it makes me exhausted. Instead, I drink water throughout the day and snack on things like Zone peanut butter chocolate bars, pretzels, popcorn, Reese's peanut butter cups, Take 5s, and 100 Grands. In the winter, I enjoy soup to warm me up. My love for my patients and the positive atmosphere at work also help keep me energized. If I need a break, I'll take a few minutes to call my mom or friends before getting back to work.
It must be hard to wind down from all of that! How do you turn off when you get home?
After work, I try to turn off and be present for my kids, helping them with homework or attending their basketball games. It's important to me that we have dinner together, although it doesn’t always happen due to their activities. We all read together before bed, which helps me relax. I also enjoy taking baths, reading by the fire, and doing puzzles. If I have extra time, I’ll take a bath with a glass of wine and listen to Taylor Swift, which is my ultimate favorite way to unwind.
Tell me a little bit about your sleep routine.
Sleep is really important to me. I rarely go out during the week because I want to be with my kids. I'm usually in bed by nine with my nine-year-old daughter and often fall asleep with her. Interestingly, I wake up at 1:00 A.M. every night, a habit I’ve had since medical school. During this time, I catch up on emails and texts since I don't have time during the day. After responding to messages, I usually have a snack like cereal or ice cream before going back to bed around 3:00 A.M. I wake up again at 7:30 A.M., and I've come to love these quiet hours for getting things done.
What does your nighttime skin routine look like?
At night, I use the same cleanser as in the morning. Then I use my glow pads, which are my hero product containing glycolic, salicylic, and lactic acids. After that, I apply Skin Medica TNS. I also like Alpharet by Skin Better, an encapsulating retinol that doesn’t irritate. I use the same moisturizer, eye cream, and neck cream as in the morning. My routine is very streamlined.
